BCS – Business Connectivity Services – External Data (2)

You set permissions on an external content type (Note: Do this in Central Admin; see bottom of previous notes) to specify who can edit the content type, who can execute operations (such as read or update) on it, who can use it to create external lists, and who can set permission on it.

To edit the connection properties (such as Filter, returned fields etc.), double click the operations:

Always make sure you set the permission (Central Admin) to an external content type before you use it. Because by default, no one
has access to the external content type.

In the previus post, if you visit CustomerList, you willnot see any customer because the County Filter is working and we didn’t provide a value for Country.

So let’s modify the view of the list, and provide the Country value.

Click List tab, Modify View.

In the Edit View, look for Data Source Filters. Here you find the filters we defined in Sharepoint Designer.

Enter Germany as the Cfilter. Now you should see a list of customers from Germany.

With ETC, you can CRUD the data.
